Organisations from across the County Durham Care Partnership came together at a recent event to develop an action plan that aims to reduce restrictive practice and unnecessary restraint across County Durham.
Restraint is making someone do something they don't want to do or stopping someone doing something they want to do. Restraint happens when a person feels they have no choice but to comply. Different types of restraint are collectively referred to as restrictive practices.
The launch event which included providers, carers, people with lived experience and partners used the six core strategies from the Restraint Reduction Network to give context to this work and produce a structure for the overarching action plan. Attendees made personal pledges to how they can contribute to this work and come together to make a difference.
